The basis of Christianity is not a system of works, but a person. That person is Jesus Christ. If you remove Jesus from Christianity, you have removed the very reason for its existence, and the power of its teaching. Jesus was not just a man, the Bible teaches us that He was, in fact, God. No man was ever born like Jesus, lived like Jesus, taught like Jesus, died like Jesus, and arose like Jesus. The Bible teaches us that Jesus existed before His birth as “the Word.” John 1:1 “In the beginning was the , and the Word was with God, and the Word .” John 1:14 “And the Word was made , and dwelt among us, (and we beheld glory, the glory as of the only of the Father,) full of grace and .” Jesus is the “I AM” and the Lord of the Bible. Look up the following verses and see of whom the Scriptures are speaking. Who is the “I AM” in the Old Testament? Exodus 3:14-15 Who is the “I AM” in the New Testament? John 8:24,28,58 Who is the “Lord” in the Old Testament? Exodus 6:2 Who is the “Lord” in the New Testament? Luke 2:11 Jesus in the New Testament has ascribed to Him all the titles of deity found in the Old Testament, i.e., Saviour, King of Israel, Redeemer, Alpha and Omega, First and Last, Messiah, Immanuel. As we continue to learn about Jesus, it is important to first understand who He really is. There is no doubt that according to the Bible Jesus is God. Look up the following passages of Scripture that teach us about His deity, and as you read them, think about who Jesus is. Scripture demands that Jesus is God: John 1:1,14; Colossians 1:15; 2:9 Jesus claimed to be God Himself: John 6:51 John 10:30 John 14:1,7-11 The Father testified of it: Hebrews 1:8 His birth demonstrated it: Isaiah 9:6 Luke 1:34,35 His miracles and wonders attest to it: John 20:30-31 His sinless life authenticated it: 2 Corinthians 5:21 Hebrews 4:15 His resurrection and appearances affirm it: Luke 24:25-27, 44-45 1 Corinthians 15:12-20 Jesus is emphatically and most definitely shown to be God in the Bible. Either He is a liar, or He is Lord. For the rational, reasonable, honest inquirer, the evidence is impacting, and overwhelmingly clear. Our faith is not based upon blind trust, it is based upon the Word of God. Does the Bible clearly teach that Jesus is God? Do you believe that Jesus is God? Now that we know Jesus is in fact God, we can more clearly understand why His sacrifice on the cross was vital to Salvation. Jesus is the only way for men to go to heaven. Trusting in Jesus is the only way to have eternal life. According to John 14:6, Jesus is the , the , and the . No one can come to the Father but by Him. According to I Timothy 2:5, Jesus is the only between God and man. According to John 10:7-9, Jesus is the of the sheep. According to Acts 4:12, there is not in any other name under heaven. Since Jesus is the only way to heaven, all other ways are a product of Satan’s deception. Some believe that heaven is reached by being sincere. Does Romans 10:2-4 support or refute this belief? Some believe that just believing God exists is enough to get them to heaven. Would you say Matthew 7:21-23 supports or refutes such a belief? Others believe they will get to heaven by their good works. According to Ephesians 2:8-9 and Titus 3:5, is this possible? Do you have any questions about the lesson?
